Why did deduping Person Accounts fail in Nonprofit Cloud when both records had Donor Gift Summary records, and is this still an issue?

This was a known issue in Salesforce Nonprofit Cloud where deduping Person Accounts failed if both records had related Donor Gift Summary records. During the merge, Salesforce was unable to process the duplicate Person Accounts because each account was linked to its own Donor Gift Summary, causing the dedupe operation to fail.

Previously, the workaround was to delete the Donor Gift Summary record associated with the non-master Person Account before running the dedupe. After the merge, Salesforce would automatically update the Donor Gift Summary on the surviving master record.

Salesforce has since resolved this issue, and Person Accounts can now be merged successfully even when both records have associated Donor Gift Summary records. No manual deletion of Donor Gift Summary records is required.

If a customer reports this issue, verify that the org is running the Salesforce fix. In current environments, deduping Person Accounts with Donor Gift Summary records should work as expected.
