Current Limitation
Folder sharing currently allows owners to grant access to “users in my groups.” This option is broad and tied to all of the owner’s group memberships, which limits precision and flexibility in managing access.

Requested Enhancement
Introduce the ability to share folders with a specific public group.

Why This Matters

  • More precise access control: Public groups can be intentionally designed around defined visibility levels (e.g., department, role, project team).
  • Improved governance: Decouples sharing from individual user group memberships, reducing risk of overexposure.
  • Greater scalability: Enables administrators to manage access centrally by maintaining public groups, rather than updating sharing settings across multiple folders.
  • Cleaner alignment with security model: Supports more consistent, role-based access patterns.

Summary
Allowing folder sharing to specific public groups would provide more targeted, scalable, and governable access control compared to the current “share to my groups” option, which is often too broad.
